HAZARDOUS MATERIAL STORAGE BUILDINGS
IF YOU FIND YOU NEED A FIRE RATING DUE
TO THE VOLUME OF YOUR CHEMICALS AND YOUR PROXXIMITY TO ANOTHER LOCATION OR PROPERTY SET BACK, THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO LOOK FOR:

Anything that falls short or is engineered diffrently
is not built to Factory Mutual (FM) Standards and Guildines and it is likely that you will not be able to obtain a permit - testing, inspection or not.
Look for these VERY IMPORTANT approval labels:



(4) four hour fire-rating walls MUST comply with UL U420. It consists of Two layers 5/8" Fire-Shield Gypsum 57 Wallboard screw attached vertically to 1 5/8" steel studs,
24" on center. Air space 9 1/2" . 3 1/2"
mineral wool or glass fiber in cavity. Wallboard joints staggered.


(2) Two-hour fire-rated walls MUST comply with UL Classification U425. UL U425 requires (2) two layers 5/8" Fire-Shield Gypsum Wallboard screw attached vertically to each side of 3 1/2"
20 gauge steel studs spaced 24" on center, studs laterally
braced and fastened to tracks. All wallboard joints staggered
on opposite sides.
